Netscape’s Address Book in 2002

Back in the mid-’90s, Netscape wasn’t just a browser—it was a full-on software suite that tried to own your entire online experience. Netscape Navigator 1.0 dropped in late 1994 and basically made the web usable, then by ’95 and ’96, the company rolled out Netscape Communicator, which bundled email, newsgroups, an HTML editor, and even a little address book all in one. Versions like 3.0 were peak “internet boom” territory, while 4.x (1997) was the all-in-one beast everyone either loved or hated for being heavy. By the time 6.0 showed up in 2000—built on the new Mozilla core—the magic had mostly faded thanks to Internet Explorer dominating, but for anyone who lived online in dial-up days, that Netscape icon is pure nostalgia.
