Windows 95 System Agent

The System Agent in Windows 95

Windows 95 System Agent was basically Microsoft’s first shot at automating your PC’s busywork, and it dropped in August 1995 as part of the Plus! Pack. It let you schedule things like disk defrags, Scandisk checks, and even shutting down your computer without babysitting it—huge for anyone running a beige box overnight. System Agent got a little smarter with Windows 98, integrating with Task Scheduler, but back in the 90s this was peak “set it and forget it” for home users. If you ever queued up a defrag right before bed and woke up to a clean, optimized drive, you know the vibe.
