Before YouTube, before Spotify, there was RealPlayer. RealNetworks' 1995 player (RealAudio, then RealVideo) was how the internet first streamed media — tinny radio broadcasts, grainy video clips, all of it arriving in fits and starts over dial-up while the little logo spun and the word "buffering" burned into your retinas.
