Internet Explorer 1.0 included with Microsoft 95 Plus!

Internet Explorer 1.0 dropped in August 1995 as part of Windows 95’s Plus! Pack, and honestly, it was bare-bones—basically Microsoft dipping its toes into the browser game to catch up with Netscape. Built on top of the old Mosaic browser code, it could handle basic HTML, images, and not much else—no JavaScript, no plug-ins, no tabs. IE 1.5 came later that same year, finally adding table support and inline images, which felt like a big deal back then. It wasn’t fast, it wasn’t pretty, but it kicked off Microsoft’s browser era and set the stage for the internet wars that would dominate the late ’90s.
