WordPerfect 5.2 on Windows 3.1
Posted on September 2, 2025
WordPerfect 5, dropping in 1989, was the word processor everyone swore by before Microsoft Word took over. It ran on DOS, rocked that legendary blue screen with white text, and gave you real control with function key shortcuts—if you could remember them. The 5.1 update in 1990 made it even bigger, adding WYSIWYG document preview and printer drivers that made home printers actually useful. Offices lived in this thing through the early ’90s, and if you were cranking out reports or term papers back then, odds are you were living in WordPerfect, praying you didn’t nuke your margins. It was peak productivity before the mouse ruled the world.
