Windows 3.1 Plasma Power Saver theme

The Plasma Power Saver color theme in Windows 3.1, released in 1992, was basically Microsoft’s low-effort hack to squeeze more life out of your CRT monitor. Back then, screens weren’t exactly energy-efficient. Plasma Power Saver swapped the usual bright whites and neon pastels for darker blues, purples, and blacks so your display pulled less power and wore out slower. It wasn’t fancy, but if you were running a 386 with a chunky CRT and wanted to keep your electric bill down—or just keep that monitor alive a little longer—this theme quietly did the job.
