AOL 1.3 - Writing an email

AOL 1.3 for DOS, running on the GeoWorks interface, dropped in 1992 and was basically the training wheels for getting online before the web took over. It let you jump into email, message boards, and chat rooms on a 2400 baud modem while rocking a simple, windowed GUI that felt high-tech if you were used to plain DOS prompts. This version refined earlier DOS releases by cleaning up navigation, making file transfers less painful, and giving that classic “You’ve Got Mail” feel before it went mainstream. It was the bridge between the command-line days and the flashy AOL 2.0 and 3.0 Windows era—if you logged in on 1.3, you were there before the gold rush.
