The Nintendo Entertainment System Action Set dropped in the U.S. in 1988 and was the bundle that basically defined living room gaming for an entire generation. It came with the iconic gray NES console, two rectangular controllers, the Zapper light gun, and the legendary combo cartridge of Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. This was the version most kids begged for because it turned the NES into more than just a game machine—it was a full experience. Over time, Nintendo tweaked the box art and swapped the Zapper to orange for safety regulations in the early ’90s, but the core vibe stayed the same: pop in the cart, blow on it if it didn’t start, and suddenly your Saturday morning was gone in the best way possible.
