Friday the 13th for NES

Happy Halloween! 🎃 The real horror of Camp Crystal Lake may not be Jason, but the NES game's confusing map and terrible controls.

“Friday the 13th” for the NES dropped in 1989, and if you grew up with an 8-bit controller in your hand, you probably remember the mix of confusion and terror it brought. LJN published it, and like a lot of their movie tie-ins, it was brutally hard—Jason could pop up anywhere around Camp Crystal Lake, and you had to juggle six counselors while lighting fireplaces, finding weapons, and saving kids from getting slashed. There were no patches, no updates—what you bought was what you got—so if you figured out how to get the torch or beat Jason in his purple outfit, that was pure playground legend status. Love it or hate it, this game is burned into the memory of every NES kid who thought they were ready to outsmart a silent killer in 8-bit form.
