AOL for your PDA (2003)

Back in the early 2000s, Palm Pilots were the go-to pocket computers before smartphones took over. You had apps like Date Book, Memo Pad, and Graffiti for handwriting input built right in—but what made the Palm OS shine were the third-party apps. Developers were cranking out tools like AvantGo for offline web browsing, Docs to Go for reading Word and Excel files, and games like Bejeweled and Space Trader that absolutely ate your battery. Version-wise, Palm OS 3.x came in hot around 1998, then 4.0 dropped in 2001 with better infrared support and color display features, and 5.0 landed in 2002 with ARM processor support—which was huge for performance. These apps weren’t flashy, but they got stuff done fast. No bloat, no distractions—just raw utility in your pocket.
