The HP DreamScreen dropped in 2009 as HP’s attempt to make your digital photo frame do more than just sit there. It was basically a 10.2” or 13.3” touchscreen that streamed music from Pandora, pulled in Facebook updates, showed weather, and played slideshows—without a full OS or browser. Think of it as an early smart display before smart displays were a thing. It ran on a custom interface, connected via Wi-Fi, and even had a remote (because touchscreens weren’t “enough” back then). Cool idea, wrong timing—tablets crushed it within a year, and HP killed it off quietly around 2010. Today, it’s a reminder of when “smart home” was still trying to figure out what smart even meant.
