Back in the late '80s and through the 2000s, the TV/VHS combo was a staple in bedrooms, dorms, and family minivans. First popping up around 1987, these all-in-one units mashed a CRT TV with a built-in VCR—super convenient before flat screens and streaming took over. No extra cables, no extra remotes. Just slide in the tape and hit play. By the mid-’90s, models got sleeker, added front A/V ports, and later, stereo sound. You’d find these things everywhere—especially in classrooms wheeling in that magical cart on movie day. They started fading out in the early 2000s as DVD took over, but if you ever rewound The Lion King with the screen built right in? You already know the vibe.
